Since 1949, Penn Installations has grown to become one of the most capable and respected interior
construction contractors in the east coast, southern states and mid-atlantic regions. The history
of how we got there is a fascinating and unlikely story that begins with... a furniture store.
1915: Father and son Izzy and Abe Klatzkin found "The Penn Furniture Company" in Lewistown,
a small town in Central Pennsylvania. Over the years the enterprise grew to include eight stores
and spread across Central and Western Pennsylvania. (In addition to Lewistown, Penn Furniture
stores sprang up in Johnstown, Altoona, Clearfield, Somerset, Indiana, Latrobe and Greensburg.)
1949: As the furniture company expanded, so did their service offerings. Thirty years
after its founding, commercial carpet and furniture sales had grown to comprise a significant
portion of the business. These commercial accounts required expert delivery and installation
services, which led to the creation in 1949 of Penn Installations. While Penn Installations began as the
carpet installation division of the Penn Furniture Company, we soon grew to provide a much wider
range of interior construction services. The first step in that direction occurred in...
1954: ...when Penn Installations added acoustic ceiling tile installation services. From there,
we gradually took on the entire range of interior design and construction services.
Today, Penn Installations is a full-service interiors contractor having worked in nine states,
including New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Virginia and Tennessee.
